Generals Burnside and Stuart

In the Civil War you may know that there were two different sides in the country that were against each other. So in this essay I am going to talk about two people, Ambrose Everett Burnside and Jeb Stuart. Burnside was on the Union side and Stuart was with the Confederates. So, both of these people were against each other but both of them were great individuals in their own way.

Even though Burnside was a Union general he still had a lot more jobs that he participated in. He was a railroad executive, industrialist, inventor, and politician. So he definitely kept himself very busy. Burnside didn’t exactly become president of the United States, but he was the first president of the NRA. Do you recognize something specific in his last name? You might not notice it yet but he was the person who started the sideburn hairstyle. During the Civil War Burnside had a mixture of victories and defeats. But everyone has their ups and downs right? Here is a picture of Ambrose Everett Burnside (that way you can see why the sideburns style was inspired by him).

The next general that I will be talking about is Jeb Stuart who was on the Confederate side. He was a little bit different from Burnside but people can never be exactly the same. To me, I think Stuart had a playful spirit because he liked to have a ton of fun. Though he liked to be that way, he also knew when to work hard. His original name was not Jeb. That was more of an abbreviation because his name is super long. He was James Ewell Brown Stuart. People weren’t going to call that man by his full name because if you were trying to get his attention he would be gone by the time you have finished calling him. He was actually noticed by a very important general. That important general was Robert E. Lee. He was one of the most popular generals that was talked about in my recent history lessons. But anyway, he noticed Jeb and he brought him into his cavalry. The reason why he was helping Lee out was because of his good work which also boosted Confederate morale. Those weren’t the only reasons though. Stuart could travel much quicker which also made Lee receive information faster. So there were lots of pros to this situation. He was also a part of the Bleeding Kansas issue. Stuart also had the most influence on the outcome of Gettysburg. But during this time he was attacked which separated him from his partner Lee. Unfortunately he was wounded in a cavalry battle. That didn’t stop him until he died in the next battle after that. Here is a picture of Jeb Stuart.

Both of these men were great and loyal generals. I think their personalities are a little different though but that’s not a bad thing. Jeb seemed more of a fun and uplifting person, but also a hard worker when it was needed. He was also a party person. Ambrose Everett Burnside to me was more of a focused person nose deep in his work. This is just my interpretation of them only by what I know about their lives. But he had so many jobs that he definitely didn’t have time to party all night. I see him as maybe a very determined person. But overall, both of these men had their own characteristics that made them who they were. They were amazing generals. Whether on the Union or Confederate side, were very loyal.
